The treasure trove of the museum is unending, take a ramble across the museum to discover the various types of dolls, like celluloid dolls, plastic dolls, composition dolls, wooden dolls,bisque dolls, cloth dolls, wax dolls, paper mache dolls, plastic dolls, Japanese Dolls and a lot more collected from across the world.
Location of the Yokohama Doll Museum: Located in the city of Yokohama, which is the second largest city of Japan, the Yokohama Doll Museum is barely at a stone's throw from Exit #4 of the Motomachi/Chuukagai Station. Very conveniently located, you can also come here through bus services arriving at the Yamashita Futou Iriguchibus depot.
Collection at the Yokohama Doll Museum: A beautiful motley, with colors splurged from everywhere, you can find dolls of different varieties, coming from 32 different countries across the globe. Having begun with a collection of 3149 dolls, the Yokohama Doll Museum presently has a stock of more than 13000 dolls. The collection is ever increasing, with collectibles coming from different parts of the globe. Although the share of Japanese dolls is of course more here, the museum has one of the diverse varieties of dolls from every other part of the world. The museum has a rare display of 850 dolls made by traditional methods from 140 different countries. There are also wooden dolls belonging to the 16th -18th century-Europe. Made out wood, these dolls reflected the fashion of the age. You could just not miss the wonderful wax dolls of Britain, or those made out of Papier- Mache, or clay or the bisque dolls of France and Germany. The other attractions at the Yokohama Doll Museum include the China Dolls belonging to the 19th century. Made out of glitzy white porcelain,these are also known as "Glazed China Dolls" and were also one of the major exports to United States. The other varieties include the cloth dolls, rag dolls, celluloid dolls, plastic and folk dolls. There is also a collection of miniature doll houses here, belonging to 16th century Germany and Holland.
